The Volvo Penta alternators are adapted to the capacity of each engine to ensure efficient charging. By installing the Battery Control Module, the boat’s entire electrical system will be both more reliable and easier to monitor.

BATTERY MANAGEMENT

Battery managment is a fully integrated solution for monitoring, managing and maintaining a boat’s batteries, and features the industry’s first e-Key Remote control.

Many boats need multiple voltage meters for its many batteries, which are often located in different places. With the Battery Management Display, all this information and more can be accessed in one display in the boat’s cockpit at any time. The same information is also available in the ordinary user display at the helm when powered up. This includes voltage, current flows, time to full/empty and status of battery health.

With the e‐Key Remote a feature of the Volvo Penta Battery Management System, it’s possible to control the boat’s entire electrical system at a distance of up to 100 meters, before boarding and when leaving the boat. The functions and possibilities of the e‐Key Remote are similar to a modern car key where one key and one single press of a button is enough to get started.

Four components make up the Battery Management System: the Battery Control Unit, the 2.5″Battery Management Display, the Battery Sensor, and the e‐Key Remote. Together, these components are easily combined to a fully customized battery management system.

E‐KEY REMOTE

With the new e-Key Remote from Volvo Penta, the driver will be able to control the boat’s entire electrical system in the easiest possible way, before boarding and when leaving the boat. ”The functions and possibilities of the e-Key Remote are similar to a modern car key where one key and one single press of a button is enough to get started”, says Anders Thorin, Product Manager at Volvo Penta. It’s possible to connect up to four keys, for individual users, to the system – and of course the e-Key is made for marine condition and its signal reaches up to 100 meters.

For the boat builders the e-Key Remote and Battery Management – that can be used with or without the Volvo Penta EVC system – leads to easier and faster installations of the electrical system. Instead, the entire electrical system of the boat is controlled with one single key, no matter the number of engines.

Unlock your boat, turn on the lights, remote control the gangway or open the sunroof – all with a single press of a button.

BATTERY MANAGEMENT DISPLAY

The 2.5″ Battery Management Display is used to set up the Battery Management System, and to act as a remote control of the Battery Control Module. With the Battery Management Display, the driver can monitor voltage, current flow, state of charge, time to full/empty, state of battery health and warning messages.

BATTERY CONTROL MODULE

The Battery Control Module contains a number of inputs, outputs and components that handle the power supply to the engine and accessory consumers on board. Acting as the main hub for the boat’s electrical system, it makes the battery status reliable and easier to monitor from a display at the helm. System parameters can be preset so that information on charge state, battery health, time to full/empty, voltage, and current are all easily accessible.

BATTERY SENSOR

The Battery Sensor adds the most options for customizing a Battery Management System installation. Hooked up to the batteries, it provides the driver with detailed information about voltage, current flow, state of charge, time before the battery is empty or fully charged, and information about the battery’s life‐span.

EXTRA ALTERNATOR

Volvo Penta engines have alternators that are perfectly matched to the torque of the engine to provide extra charging without losing maneuvering power. Upgrading with an extra alternator will give high-capacity charging for 12V and 24V systems.
